On Thursday, social media users expressed surprise after the Foreign Office revised its statement regarding the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas Political Bureau Chief. Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on July 31, an attack attributed to Israel.
Initially, Pakistan’s Foreign Office condemned the killing as a dangerous escalation in the region. However, the original statement, which explicitly mentioned “Israeli adventurism,” was replaced with a revised version omitting “Israel” before “adventurism.”
The change drew criticism from users questioning the country’s foreign policy. One user on X pointed out the lack of mention of genocide in Gaza and criticized the revised statement for downplaying Israel’s role, a post which received over 23,000 views.
