DENSE FOG PLANKERS PUNJAB MOTORWAYS IN NORTHWEST INDIA

A thick veil of dense fog enveloped parts of Punjab on a night between Thursday and Friday, severely impacting traffic flow across the region. Dunya News reported that several Motorway sections had been closed to all types of traffic due to hazardous weather conditions.

The affected motorways included Motorway M2 from Lahore to Kot Momin, Motorway M3 from Faizpur to Samundari, Motorway M4 from Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad, and Motorway M11 from Lahore to Sambrial. Traffic disruptions were particularly noticeable in cities across Punjab as visibility plummeted below safe levels.

Motorway Police spokespersons confirmed that closures were necessary for public safety reasons amid severe weather conditions. They stressed the importance of adhering to lane discipline, using fog lights, reducing speeds, and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles during poor visibility periods.

Authorities warned drivers about the risk of serious accidents if they failed to comply with these guidelines. Motorists were advised to travel only during daylight hours when visibility is more favorable. Safe travel timings have been defined between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM, offering a brief window of relief from fog-related disruptions.

The police also recommended that citizens avoid unnecessary journeys and contact the Motorway helpline 130 for assistance or guidance during fog-induced traffic issues. Authorities emphasized that public cooperation was crucial to prevent further accidents caused by hazardous weather conditions.

This incident underscores the vulnerability of transportation networks in the region, especially during critical commuting times. It serves as a stark reminder about the importance of preparedness and adherence to safety protocols in challenging climatic scenarios.
