Former intelligence chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody, with the court martial process initiated in connection with the Top City housing scheme scandal. This marks a historic first in Pakistan, as a former intelligence chief faces a court martial.
According to a press release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the action follows a detailed inquiry ordered by the Supreme Court of Pakistan to investigate complaints related to the Top City case. The ISPR noted that disciplinary action has been initiated under the Pakistan Army Act, and violations of the Act post-retirement were confirmed.
“Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd),” said a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR). It added: “Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.”
The ISPR confirmed that the Field General Court Martial process has begun against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd).
