Former Punjab Chief Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central President, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, was urgently admitted to the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (PIC) after his health took a downturn while in prison.

Elahi, currently facing the consequences of the crackdown on PTI leadership following the unrest triggered by the initial arrest of Imran Khan on May 9, complained of chest pain. Medical tests, including an electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram, were swiftly conducted at the PIC, with results still awaited.

This incident adds to Elahi’s multiple arrests since June 1 in various cases, the latest being on September 18 by the Punjab ACE. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) spokesperson revealed that Elahi faced accusations of making 12 illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly for grade 17 positions. The recruits were allegedly brought in through record alterations.
