Former Sri Lanka international Shehan Jayasuriya is set to make his debut for the United States in next month’s Twenty20 World Cup. The US named him along with several other players in their 15-member squad on Friday.

All-rounder Jayasuriya, now aged 34, had a career spanning 12 one-day internationals and 18 T20 matches for Sri Lanka. He played in the 2016 edition of the T20 World Cup before announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in the South-Asian nation in 2021.

After relocating to the US with his family, Jayasuriya has since competed in several franchise-based T20 leagues, including Major League Cricket. Pakistani-born Mohammad Mohsin also aims for his debut as a part of the squad led by Monank Patel.

Shubham Ranjane, grandson of former India international Vasant Ranjane, is another player named in the US team. The US face defending champions India, who are co-hosting the competition with Sri Lanka, in their first Group A match on February 7.

The squad includes: Monank Patel (captain), Jasdeep Singh, Andries Gous, Shehan Jayasuriya, Milind Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, Saiteja Mukkamala, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Harmeet Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Shadley van Schalkwyk, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan, and Mohammad Mohsin.
