Hannah Murray recently shared her shocking experience with a wellness cult that transported her to a hospital.
The Game of Thrones star told The Guardian in an interview that she became part of an exploitative cult focused on fitness, ignoring practices such as crystals or yoga. This ultimately led to an intense psychotic episode and landing her in a mental health unit.
Murray highlighted the lack of critical thought surrounding wellness, stating, “It’s easy to go, ‘Well, that would never happen to me,’ but we do ourselves a disservice when we start saying that.”
The 36-year-old retired English actress joined the organization after meeting an energy healer named Grace on set. The violent and dark themes of Detroit left her with nightmares, leading her to confide in Grace.
Murray emphasized the need to understand why people engage in such practices rather than dismissing them as “idiots” or “stupid.” She noted that many individuals go through similar experiences without being fundamentally flawed.
