George Clooney is set to receive an honor at the 2026 Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
Clooney has received two Academy Awards, four Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, one BAFTA Award, one Emmy Award, and two Critics’ Choice Awards for his acting work. He will be celebrated as a triple role – actor, director, and producer at the Venice Film Festival.
The Venice Biennale stated that Clooney’s career is marked by glamour, professionalism, and modern sensitivity, with rare versatility across genres including war movies, thrillers, comedies, science fiction, and bittersweet comedies. Each film showcases his ability to remain true to himself while adapting his register.
Clooney expressed gratitude for the Golden Lion, stating it as his favorite festival and a tremendous honor. He added that this recognition likely signifies he is old but will take it.
Venice chief Alberto Barbera praised Clooney’s triple role, describing him as a complete and charismatic artist who has transformed deep vocation into one of the most luminous career trajectories in contemporary film.
The 2026 Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival is scheduled from September 2 to 12.
