
Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan Announces Local Government Elections on 2 August 2026
The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan has officially announced that local government elections will be held on 2 August 2026, marking the first such polls in nearly twenty years.
Nomination papers for candidates can be submitted from June 9 to 15, kickstarting the electoral process after a prolonged hiatus.
The initial list of candidates is expected to be published on June 16, followed by scrutiny of nomination papers between June 17 and 22.
Appeals related to nominations will be heard and decided from July 28 to 4 July, with a revised list of candidates issued on July 6.
Withdrawal deadline for nomination papers set for July 7, while election symbols will be allotted on July 8. The same schedule applies to women’s reserved seats, ensuring their active participation in the electoral process.
