Commecs College celebrated its 31st Foundation Day on Saturday with a vibrant event attended by notable dignitaries, students, and faculty.
The highlight of the celebration was the announcement by Chief Guest, former Federal Minister Dr. Gohar Ejaz, HI, SI, who revealed a groundbreaking Rs 1 billion funding initiative. This generous contribution will be used to establish a new Business and IT University and to support Commecs College students through a scholarship program at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).
The event featured insightful speeches from prominent figures including Arif Habib, the chairman of Arif Habib Corporation; former Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan Dr. Shamshad Akhter; and former Provincial Minister SM Tanveer.
Each speaker offered valuable perspectives on the country’s economy, the evolving job market, and the importance of perseverance in today’s competitive world.
Principal Cdr. (Retd) Tanveer Ahmad delivered a welcome address, reflecting on Commecs College’s mission and its commitment to equipping students with essential skills for success in the modern business world. He highlighted the college’s focus on innovation and holistic development, stressing the importance of a strong ethical foundation for future business leaders.
Ahmed Chinoy, HI, SI, Chairman of the Commecs Educational Trust, shared nostalgic memories of the college’s early days and encouraged students to uphold the institution’s legacy of excellence. His speech emphasized the ongoing importance of dedication and hard work in building upon the college’s achievements.
In his keynote address, Dr. Gohar Ejaz announced the establishment of a new Business and IT University, honoring the legacy of his late father, Ejaz Ahmed Sheikh. This new institution will focus on business and technology education, aiming to foster innovation and prepare students for the global economy. Additionally, Dr. Ejaz introduced a scholarship program in partnership with LUMS to support talented Commecs College students, covering their academic expenses and facilitating their higher education pursuits.
S M Tanveer, the Guest of Honour, provided practical advice on adapting to the rapidly changing business environment. He urged students to stay informed about industry trends, continuously learn, and adapt to technological advancements to remain competitive in the job market.
Other distinguished speakers included Arif Habib, who motivated students by sharing his personal experiences and emphasizing the value of hard work and perseverance.
Dr. Shamshad Akhter offered an in-depth analysis of Pakistan’s economic challenges and encouraged students to play an active role in addressing these issues. The event concluded with a Cake Cutting Ceremony, mementos presented to the Chief Guest and other distinguished attendees, and a group photograph.
The celebrations continued with performances showcasing student talents, including musical acts and a skit, which reflected the cultural vibrancy and creativity of the Commecs College community.
