ISLAMABAD: The government has today unveiled an unprecedented Rs55 per litre increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel. This significant hike was announced by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik during a press conference held on Friday, alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb.
Minister Pervaiz Malik highlighted that the new pricing structure would come into effect from midnight. The government officials emphasized the necessity of this measure as part of broader efforts to address rising fuel costs and inflationary pressures within the country.
Ishaq Dar, addressing the media at the press conference, noted that while the move was aimed at mitigating the financial burden on consumers, it would also necessitate adjustments in other sectors such as transportation and logistics where these fuels are extensively used.
Muhammad Aurangzeb, speaking on behalf of the Finance Ministry, added that detailed plans were already underway to ensure a smooth transition period for affected industries. The minister assured that the government was committed to monitoring this adjustment closely and would be prepared to take further measures if required to prevent any adverse economic impacts.
The announcement has generated significant attention from both media outlets and public stakeholders alike, sparking discussions on its potential effects across various sectors of the economy. Observers expect more comprehensive details about the impact evaluation and compensation plans for affected individuals and businesses in coming days.
This latest move underscores the government’s commitment to tackling persistent challenges within the national economic landscape.
