Federal government to terminate the provision of free electricity to public institutions and officers, according to sources familiar with the development. This decision is being considered due to intense public and political pressure, and an emergency plan is being developed within the Ministry of Energy.

The plan includes ending the provision of free electricity to all government and semi-government institutions, as well as cutting off free electricity for bureaucrats, judges, and parliamentarians. Power Division sources also mentioned that the performance of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) would be scrutinized as part of this initiative.

In the second phase of the emergency plan, the federal government is considering withdrawing the provision of free petrol as well. The plan ensures that only legitimate facilities are provided to industries and businesses. Additionally, there is a proposal to reduce Maximum Demand Indicator (MDI) charges in factories to support industrial operations.
