Federal Government Announces Ashura Public Holidays

The federal government has declared two public holidays on June 25 and 26 for Ashura. The Cabinet Division issued a notification confirming these dates as part of Muharram 9 and 10, 1448 AH.

Security Measures in Islamabad

As part of security arrangements for the religious occasion, the Islamabad administration imposed a ban on pillion riding in the federal capital area.

Mobile Phone Services Remain Operational

Despite the public holidays, mobile phone services will remain operational during Ashura observances.

Sindh Government Declares Holidays

The Sindh government also declared June 25 and 26 as public holidays throughout the province. A notification shared by the Sindh Information Department stated that all offices, autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under its administrative control would be closed except those providing essential services.

Ashura: A Month of Mourning for Shia Muslims

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar and is observed as a period of mourning, particularly by Shia Muslims around the world. The month commemorates the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD, where Imam Husain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), was martyred along with his companions and family members.

Public Gatherings and Processions

Religious gatherings, processions, and majalis are held across Pakistan during Muharram. Authorities have implemented extensive security measures to ensure peaceful observance of the occasion.
