Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Friday that petroleum prices have been reduced. High-speed diesel is now Rs135 cheaper per litre, dropping from Rs520 to Rs385. Petrol has also decreased by Rs12, now priced at Rs366 per litre.
In his televised address, PM Shehbaz stated these changes fulfilled his promise to pass the benefits of falling international oil prices to the public. He noted that Pakistan had faced severe inflation and acknowledged the country’s role in securing peace talks between the US and Iran.
The prime minister said both sides accepted his proposal for dialogue, with US and Iranian leaders set to visit Islamabad on Saturday. He described hosting these talks as a moment of pride for Pakistan and the Muslim world, emphasizing the importance of achieving lasting peace.
Pakistan’s military leadership, including Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, played a crucial role in securing the ceasefire. PM Shehbaz urged the nation to pray for successful negotiations and global peace, reiterating that dialogue remains the only viable path forward.
