Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth highlighted President Trump’s keen awareness of international communications amid revelations that Russia was offering intelligence to Iran. In a recent interview aired on “60 Minutes,” Hegseth assured the American people: “The commander-in-chief is well aware of who’s talking to whom, and we’re tracking everything meticulously.”
Hegseth elaborated, stating, “Our battle plans are factoring in all these communications. The American public can rest easy knowing their leader remains vigilant.” He continued by asserting that any interaction that shouldn’t be occurring, whether conducted publicly or covertly, is met with strong confrontation.
Earlier on Friday, multiple U.S. officials reported to CBS News that Russia was providing intelligence to Iran about U.S. movements in the region during ongoing joint military operations between the United States and Israel against Iran. This marked the first indication of Russian support for Tehran.
When asked if Mr. Trump could ensure conversations with Russians cease their interference in the conflict, Hegseth replied, “President Trump has a unique rapport with many world leaders, including Russia. He can get things done that other presidents, notably Joe Biden, couldn’t.” He added, “Messages from him or his Cabinet are certain to be delivered regardless of how they’re conveyed.”
When asked about concerns over Russian involvement potentially endangering U.S. personnel, Hegseth responded matter-of-factly: “We’re putting the enemy in danger; that’s our job. The only ones needing to worry now are Iranians who think they can get away with something.”
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed Russia’s intelligence assistance to Iran during a Fox News appearance. When asked about the leaks of such reports, she said, “I cannot comment on intelligence that’s leaked publicly.” She then clarified for reporters: “Whether or not this occurred, it doesn’t affect our military operations in Iran, because we are completely dismantling their regime.”
