The highly anticipated Battle of Gullet is drawing massive attention to House of the Dragon’s third season. Showrunner Ryan Condal describes it as “arguably the craziest episode of TV ever made,” comparing it to the iconic Battle of Helm’s Deep in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

Condal emphasized that filming this battle was essential, stating, “If we were going to do it, we had to do it right. And that meant dragons and ships and multiple theaters of conflict.”

Emma D’Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra Targaryen, noted the show’s shift from previous seasons with its faster pace in season three. She told EW, “The series this time around starts at 60 miles an hour… We’re finally watching a war that has been building for two seasons.”

D’Arcy praised Condal and his team for their bold approach to staging a massive conflict after years of primarily interpersonal drama, calling it “some very classy plotting.” The season premieres on HBO Max on June 21.
