A senior civil judge has delivered a verdict in the illegal nikah case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi during iddat.

Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah handed down a seven-year prison sentence to both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi, declaring their nikah invalid according to Shariah law. Additionally, each defendant has been fined Rs500,000.

The case culminated as Judge Qudratullah presided over proceedings in Adiala Jail, where the verdict was announced following comprehensive legal deliberations. Key witnesses, including Bushra Bibi’s former husband Khawar Maneka, and Imran Khan’s former associate Aun Chaudhry, underwent rigorous cross-examination during earlier hearings.

The courtroom witnessed intense questioning by PTI’s lawyer Salman Akram Raja and legal representatives for the petitioner Khawar Maneka and the public prosecutor. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi also provided their statements under Section 342, contributing to thoroughly examining the case.

The exhaustive proceedings, which lasted 14 hours from 9:30 am to 11 pm, underscored the gravity of the matter. Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were presented with a detailed questionnaire containing 13 probing questions, further intensifying scrutiny.
