Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has voiced his support for the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) sit-in protesting the rising electricity bills. Speaking from Adiala Jail, where he is currently attending an accountability court, Khan made the announcement through his official social media account on X.
Khan criticized the dire economic situation in Pakistan, noting the severe impact on everyday citizens. He shared a personal anecdote, revealing, “The electricity bill for the cleaner of my jail room has soared to Rs40,000.”
He called on PTI’s leadership and supporters to actively join the JI-organized protest, which has been ongoing at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi for five days. The demonstration aims to push for lower electricity prices, which JI claims are unfairly burdening the public.
JI Threatens Countrywide Boycott of Electricity Bills Over Govt’s Inaction
As public frustration mounts over economic management and inflation, the sit-in has become a focal point for dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of electricity costs. In response, the federal government has established a technical committee to address these concerns and has scheduled talks to resolve the issue.
