India has announced large-scale air force exercises near its border with Pakistan, scheduled to be held in the western state of Gujarat from January 20 to 21, 2026.

The Indian Air Force has issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), reserving designated airspace for the drills and temporarily restricting international and commercial flight operations in the area. According to the advisory, the exercises will involve frontline combat aircraft, including Rafale jets, Sukhoi-30MKI fighters, and Jaguar aircraft. Indian media reports say that the drills are expected to include high-speed manoeuvres, air combat simulations, possibly live-fire or bombing practice.

The restricted airspace covers sensitive locations close to Pakistan, including parts of the Arabian Sea, Sir Creek, Rajkot, and Ahmedabad. The move has drawn attention due to its proximity to the Pakistan border and the potential implications for regional security.

Officials said that the restricted zone stretches from northern parts of Gujarat towards the Kutch coastline along the Arabian Sea. They also stated that the NOTAM will apply earlier on January 6 and 7 ahead of the main exercise dates.

The advisory has been issued to inform civil aviation authorities and airline operators about possible airspace limitations during the exercise period. Commercial flights may be diverted or rerouted to ensure safety and maintain smooth operations.
