International Firefighters Day observed today

On this day, a global tribute is paid to firefighters for their bravery and sacrifices. The day was established in 1999 after five firefighters died battling a wildfire in Australia.

Firefighters’ role extends beyond firefighting; they also perform complex rescue missions under unpredictable conditions requiring specialized skills and equipment.

In Punjab, the Rescue 1122 Service was launched in 2004 to improve emergency response capabilities. However, establishing a robust fire service took more time, leading to the creation of the Fire Rescue Service in 2007.

Despite their selfless efforts, firefighters in Karachi face challenges due to financial constraints within the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), which struggle to provide adequate resources and facilities for their fire brigade.
