Iran Ready for Nuclear Deal Compromises if US Lends Sanctions Support

Iran is prepared to consider compromise options for a nuclear deal with the United States if Washington agrees to discuss lifting economic sanctions, according to recent remarks made by Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi. Initial talks have shown progress but remain inconclusive, as Iran has firmly stated that it will not link the issue of its nuclear program to other contentious matters such as missiles.

In a significant development, Iranian officials confirmed plans for a second round of nuclear negotiations scheduled for Tuesday in Geneva, following earlier discussions held under Omani mediation. Takht-Ravanchi’s comments highlight Tehran’s willingness to explore potential trade-offs with Washington, emphasizing the importance of sanctions relief within the talks.

While insisting that no uranium enrichment would satisfy its demands, Iran indicated flexibility by proposing a dilution plan for highly enriched uranium in exchange for comprehensive sanctions removal. This proposal serves as an example of Iranian readiness to accommodate U.S. concerns while maintaining control over critical aspects of its nuclear program.

The United States has been eager to engage with Tehran on this issue since President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which he considered a flawed deal that allowed Iran too much latitude in developing nuclear capabilities. Recent developments suggest renewed momentum towards resolving these long-standing disputes, albeit against the backdrop of ongoing U.S.-Iran tensions related to other issues such as ballistic missile proliferation.

While some progress has been made, both sides are still far apart on several crucial points and face significant hurdles in reaching a final agreement. The possibility remains that negotiations could falter or even derail entirely if mutual trust cannot be rebuilt amidst broader geopolitical uncertainties.
