Iran Upholds Firm Stance Amid Nuclear Talks

As Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed his nation on Saturday via state television, he emphasized the country’s unwavering stance in its nuclear negotiations with the United States. “World powers are lining up to force us to bow our heads,” he declared. “But we will not yield despite all the difficulties they present.”

Pezeshkian’s remarks come at a pivotal juncture in international relations, where President Donald Trump faces intense pressure from his own advisors and public opinion back home. Despite this mounting domestic opposition, Trump has escalated tensions by suggesting military action against Iran should it refuse to negotiate.

The US has pressed for Tehran to relinquish its nuclear program, an accusation denied by Iran. In a dramatic display of force, the US has deployed several aircraft carriers into the region, positioning itself within range of potential airstrikes. The USS Abraham Lincoln, with nearly 80 aircraft, was positioned about 700 kilometers from the Iranian coast as of February 18.

In response to this escalating situation, Iran and the United States have resumed indirect talks in Geneva. These meetings, mediated by Oman, offer little indication of a breakthrough. US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have participated alongside Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who hinted at the imminent submission of draft agreements.

“The next two to three days would see these drafts prepared,” Araqchi stated. “After consulting with superiors and confirming final details, they would be presented to Steve Witkoff, Trump’s key Middle East negotiator.”

Pezeshkian’s comments have underscored Iran’s resolve in the face of what he perceives as undue pressure from the international community. As these negotiations continue, observers remain cautiously optimistic for a resolution that does not lead to further military confrontation.

As the situation unfolds, the world watches with bated breath, unsure how these recent developments will impact global stability and security.
