Iranian Life Amidst US-Israel War

The ongoing conflict between the US and Israel has exacerbated economic issues in Iran, leading to higher inflation rates and a halt in various industries. Economic pressure is evident as many citizens struggle with basic living expenses.

One Tehran resident, Golnar, relies on an online shop for income but has faced significant disruptions, resulting in no earnings over two months. Her family, like others, can only afford essential needs due to the economic downturn.

The tourism sector, particularly on Qeshm Island where Sadeq resides, has also been severely impacted. With minimal visitors during key holidays like Nowruz, businesses struggle with empty hotel rooms and long wait times for fuel.

Despite these challenges, Shayan in Tehran notes that basic amenities such as gasoline, water, and electricity remain accessible. However, a pervasive sense of helplessness pervades the population.

Residents grapple with daily life under the looming threat of missile attacks on oil and gas infrastructure. This fear unites Iranians, who worry about their future amid escalating tensions.

Katayoon recently fled Iran for Turkey due to fears of violence and loss of basic freedoms. Her departure was driven by a lifetime of living in constant fear rather than economic hardship.

The security situation has intensified with increased checkpoints and searches on public transportation. Demonstrations opposing the government are swiftly suppressed, while pro-government rallies remain common.

Artists like Kaveh report heightened surveillance and control over personal devices, reflecting the regime’s crackdown on dissent. The possibility of a US-Iranian deal is seen as a double-edged sword, with opponents fearing potential repercussions if negotiations succeed.
