Israel’s Ministerial Committee on Procurement has approved a plan for Israel to purchase two new combat squadrons of F-35 and F-15IA advanced fighter aircraft from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, according to a statement released by the defense ministry. This deal is part of a larger 350 billion shekel ($119 billion) initiative aimed at bolstering Israel’s military and enhancing its readiness for future security challenges.
The new squadrons are expected to serve as a cornerstone in the military’s long-term force development strategy, addressing regional threats and ensuring Israel maintains air superiority. Defense Minister Amir Baram emphasized that alongside immediate wartime needs, it is crucial to secure the IDF’s strategic edge over the next decade and beyond.
Under the deal, Israel will acquire an additional F-35 squadron from Lockheed Martin and a second squadron of F-15IA fighter jets from Boeing. In December, Boeing was awarded an $8.6 billion contract for 25 new F-15IAs and an option for another 25 aircraft. Defense Minister Katz highlighted that the recent conflict with Iran underscored the importance of advanced air power in protecting Israel.
The acquisition of these new aircraft is expected to significantly enhance autonomous flight capabilities, integrate next-generation defense systems, and establish Israeli military dominance in space. Katz reiterated the IDF’s mission to have the necessary tools and strength to operate anywhere at any time, emphasizing ongoing investments to remain ahead of potential adversaries and ensure Israel’s security both now and in the future.
