US-Mediated Ceasefire Takes Effect Amid Ongoing Tensions

The US-mediated 10-day ceasefire took effect on Thursday, largely halting the war between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah. Despite this truce, Israel has instructed residents of south Lebanon to stay out of a belt running along the border and not approach the Litani River area.

Israeli Troops Maintain Presence in South Lebanon

Israel maintains its grip over southern Lebanon through troops occupying territory deep in the region, aiming to create a buffer zone against potential Hezbollah attacks. The group claims it retains the “right to resist” Israeli occupation.

Map Published by Israeli Military Shows Areas to Avoid

The Israeli military posted maps on social media showing red lines through 21 villages across south Lebanon and areas where residents should not move into those between the red line and the border. Additionally, the area around the Litani River is off-limits.

Hezbollah Official Warns Residents Against Returning Home

Senior Hezbollah official Mahmoud Qmati addressed residents of Hezbollah-controlled southern suburbs on Saturday, warning them against returning home due to the risk of Israeli attack. Local councils in the south also advised residents that it’s not yet safe to return.

Israeli Military Reports Casualties and Damage

On Sunday, the Israeli military reported one soldier killed and nine wounded during combat operations in southern Lebanon. The conflict has resulted in over 2,300 deaths, including 177 children, and forced more than 1.2 million people to flee, according to Lebanese authorities. Hezbollah claims at least 400 of its fighters have been killed by the end of March.
