Israeli airstrikes kill 9 in Gaza, including southern town

At least nine Palestinians died Sunday following Israeli airstrikes, with medics reporting that a tent encampment for displaced families was hit, killing at least four people. Health officials also confirmed five fatalities in Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The attacks were attributed to Israel’s military as a response to Hamas ceasefire violations.

Palestinian civil defense and health authorities stated the strikes followed an incident where Hamas allegedly violated the truce by deploying east of the “Yellow Line,” which demarcates Israeli- and Hamas-controlled territories. An IDF official described Sunday’s strikes as precise, in accordance with international law, after Hamas breached the agreement more than six times.

Since October’s ceasefire deal, the Gaza health ministry reported at least 600 Palestinians have been killed by Israel’s fire, while Israel claims four soldiers were killed by militants in Gaza over the same period. Military officials continued their efforts to destroy underground tunnels and eliminate armed “terrorists” in northern Gaza, often near IDF personnel.

Hamas, in turn, has accused Israel of repeatedly violating the ceasefire, a central part of President Trump’s plan to end the conflict. On Saturday, military sources indicated they had identified armed “terrorists” near IDF operations in the north of Gaza and continued destroying tunnels under the agreement.

The Israeli strikes come amid ongoing accusations from both sides regarding violations of the truce, highlighting the delicate nature of resolving the longstanding dispute between Hamas and Israel.
