Israeli Firefighters Battle Blaze at Haifa Refinery After Projectile Attack

Israel’s fire and rescue service is battling a large blaze at the Haifa oil refinery, which was struck by debris from an intercepted projectile. The incident occurred Monday, with thick black smoke visible in television footage.

The fire service stated that the blaze involved a tank containing 3,000 cubic meters of gasoline, which has been pumped out to manage the situation. No casualties have been reported.

This event followed Israeli military confirmation of new incoming missiles from Iran. It remains unclear whether the refinery was hit by debris from an Iranian or Lebanese missile or an Israeli intercepting projectile.

Footage taken shortly after impact showed a plume of dark smoke rising above cylindrical tanks, with journalists arriving later reporting that the smoke had dissipated and firefighters working to control the fire.

The Haifa refinery, Israel’s third-largest city, is situated in a large industrial zone. Earlier, Israeli media reported that search and rescue forces were en route to the site following reports of impact. The refinery was also hit on March 19 when Iran fired missiles towards Israel.
