Munim Zafar, secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi, delivered an address on Thursday, expressing solidarity with the people of Kashmir. The rally took place from Jail Chowrangi to Mazar-e-Quaid, marking Kashmir Day.
Zafar stated that 78 years had elapsed since the United Nations resolution on Kashmir was adopted but remained unfulfilled. He condemned this as an injustice towards oppressed nations when a solution is imposed upon them by choice. Drawing parallels, Zafar mentioned West Timor and South Sudan, which were granted independence; however, he argued that the people of Kashmir have not been afforded such freedom after 78 years.
He criticized Pakistani authorities for failing to make meaningful efforts on the Kashmir issue. In Zafar’s view, the government is “suffering from American slavery.” In reference to the Indo-Pakistan war in May, he asserted that during this period, Pakistan was united as a nation. However, Zafar contended that today’s rulers are “busy completing an agenda set by America for Trump” and form a corrupt group solely focused on each other’s interests.
