John C. McGinley Reflects on Emotional Scenes of Scrubs Revival

The new series of Scrubs, released on February 25th, 2026, focuses on mentoring interns at Sacred Heart Hospital, blending classic fantasy elements with a modern setting.

In episode eight, Dr. Cox’s character is diagnosed with an incurable autoimmune disease, leading to emotionally charged scenes between him and JD, played by Zach Braff, and Elliott Reid, portrayed by Sarah Chalke.

McGinley expressed in an interview that he was “a mess” filming these intense moments, emphasizing the importance of not cutting out key emotional beats for the audience’s sake.

He also praised series creator Bill Lawrence for his skillful editing, which ensured the emotional weight resonated with viewers without overshadowing Cox’s character.
