Senior Judge Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim assumes the role of Acting Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) following a recent appointment by President Asif Ali Zardari. Meanwhile, six additional judges have been sworn in for the Sindh High Court (SHC), as announced in an official notification.

According to the Ministry of Law’s notification, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim’s appointment as Acting Chief Justice of PHC is governed by Article 196 of the Constitution. He is slated to be confirmed as the permanent Chief Justice pending approval from the Parliamentary Committee.

The move comes as Chief Justice PHC Muhammad Ibrahim Khan prepares to retire on April 14 after three decades of service. In a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, Chief Justice Khan expressed disappointment over the judiciary’s failure to consider him for elevation to the Supreme Court, citing regional representation concerns.

President Asif Ali Zardari also appointed six new judges to the Sindh High Court, including Justice Sana Akram Minhas, Justice Amjad Ali Bohaiu, Justice Jawad Akbar Sarwana, Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, Justice Muhammad Abdul Rahman, and Justice Arbab Ali Hakro.

The Ministry of Law issued the necessary notifications for the appointment of additional judges to the Sindh High Court, further bolstering the judiciary’s ranks.
