Kanye West has been confirmed as a performer at the 2026 Wireless Festival. However, controversy over his past statements led several major sponsors to withdraw their support.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer criticized the booking, deeming it “deeply concerning” that West would headline the festival given his history of antisemitic remarks and admiration for Nazism.
The situation has raised questions about West’s right to enter the UK. The Labour government is under pressure to act swiftly on this issue.
Despite the criticism, Wireless Festival organizer Melvin Benn staunchly defended West’s inclusion in the lineup. In a detailed statement, Benn reaffirmed his decision to keep West as a performer and emphasized that he would not be given an opportunity to express personal views.
Benn stated, “What Ye has said about Jews and Hitler is equally abhorrent to me as it is to the Jewish community.” He added that West’s role is limited to performing songs popular in the UK. Benn urged for forgiveness and hope from those who have been affected by his past remarks.
West has previously apologized for his anti-Semitic outbursts, but some remain unconvinced of his sincerity.
