A suicide attack targeting a convoy of foreign nationals near the Mansehra Colony stop in Karachi’s Landhi area left two terrorists dead and several others injured, including two security guards and a passer-by.
Authorities confirmed that the attack was aimed at the vehicle carrying foreign nationals, with the Sindh inspector general of police stating that all five japanese foreigners in the convoy escaped unharmed and have been moved to a safe location under police custody.
The incident unfolded near the Malir Sharafi Goth police station precincts, with eyewitnesses reporting a loud explosion followed by gunfire. Police and rescue teams quickly responded, transferring the injured to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment.
One of the deceased assailants was identified as a suicide bomber, while the other was killed in a police encounter. The injured security guards, Noor Muhammad and Langar Khan, both aged 45, sustained gunshot wounds, with Noor succumbing to his injuries during treatment.
According to police spokesperson Abrar Hussain Baloch, law enforcement personnel intervened swiftly upon hearing the explosion. An armed terrorist, equipped with a rifle and grenades, opened fire upon seeing the police, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire before being neutralized by police retaliation.
Further investigation revealed that the targeted convoy comprised two vehicles, with a foreign national, identified as the managing director of a company, present in one vehicle, while four other foreign nationals were traveling in the following van.
The police are collecting fingerprints to identify the slain terrorist through the Talaash app and NADRA, while also recovering a bag containing hand grenades from the assailants.
DIG (East) Azfar Mahesar informed the media that the bomb disposal squad would determine the blast’s nature, indicating that the attack seemed targeted. He added that one attacker was killed in an encounter, while the other detonated himself.
Security measures in the area have been heightened, with law enforcement agencies on high alert to prevent any further threats to public safety. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motives behind the attack and identify any potential accomplices.
