The defence minister of Pakistan, Khawaja Asif, made a clear statement this week, firmly rejecting the idea of establishing diplomatic relations with Israel. He indicated that such a move could be considered in the future only if Palestinians gain an independent homeland and assert their right to self-determination.
Pakistan maintains its position on non-recognition of Israel, rooted in its commitment to an independent Palestinian state, Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. This stance is based on longstanding support for Palestine’s sovereignty within the Middle East region.
During a recent interview with France 24, Asif addressed questions about Pakistan’s possible normalization of ties with Israel. He categorically ruled out such a move, stating that it would not be considered by Islamabad. When asked if other Muslim states have normalized relations with Israel, he emphasized this option is not on the agenda for Pakistan.
In contrast to his stance regarding diplomatic relations, Asif spoke about India’s strategy in the region. He accused India of employing a “proxy war” through militant attacks against Pakistan and claimed that countries like New Delhi and Kabul are aligned with militant organizations such as the Taliban. The minister highlighted some friendly nations’ efforts to mediate between Pakistan and Afghanistan amidst heightened tensions.
However, Asif noted that these mediation attempts have so far been unsuccessful. His remarks highlight the complex geopolitical landscape in the region, where conflicting interests lead to ongoing challenges for peace and stability.
