KP CM Afridi Urges Supreme Court to Facilitate Imran Khan’s Meeting with Physicians

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi reached the Supreme Court Friday to request the chief justice facilitate a meeting between incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan and his personal physicians. “The whole nation is concerned about the health of our most popular leader, Imran Khan,” said Afridi. “We will try for such a meeting with the help of the Chief Justice.”

Afridi lamented that while courts are issuing decisions on petitions, “we are not getting justice.” He claimed that cases related to Imran and his wife Bushra Bibi have not been listed in court for over a year; he said if they were today, Khan and Bushra would be released from prison within half an hour.

The KP CM announced plans to spend the night at Adiala jail in Rawalpindi, where Imran is incarcerated. He added that most PTI parliamentarians have also reached the spot but noted that restrictions prevent him and Imran’s sisters and lawyers from meeting him. On several occasions, police had used force to disperse protesters who often camp at Factory Naka.

On Thursday, Afridi rushed to Adiala jail after a report about Imran being taken briefly to Pims Hospital for a medical procedure. He said he would remain overnight outside the prison with party general secretary Salman Akram Raja. However, they left around 3 am.

Afridi has been seeking such meetings since assuming office in October last year but was unsuccessful. Afridi also expressed reservations about Imran’s health after Information Minister Attaullah Tarar confirmed earlier that Imran had undergone a medical procedure for an eye ailment at Pims on Saturday night.

Afridi’s visit comes after the PTI raised concerns about Imran’s health, and he claimed serious reservations. More to follow.
