
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized sustainable urban development at the World Urban Forum in Baku. She highlighted initiatives like “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” housing scheme, Model Village Programme, and Punjab Economic Registry Survey.
Maryam praised Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and acknowledged Heydar Aliyev’s contributions to Pakistan. The chief minister also discussed Lahore being recognized as a cultural city by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the “Suthra Punjab” project for cleanliness across the province.
She added that smog control and environmental improvements were top priorities, with infrastructure development and pollution control being key focus areas. During her visit, Maryam toured Baku’s historic old quarter, inspecting cultural and heritage sites and expressing interest in Azerbaijan’s traditional architecture.
