Mavericks Mutually Part Ways with Coach Kidd

The Dallas Mavericks have mutually agreed to part ways with head coach Jason Kidd. The team’s official statement on Tuesday announced that they will immediately begin a comprehensive search for their next head coach.

Kidd, who has led the Mavericks since 2019, guided them to the Western Conference finals in 2022 and the NBA Finals in 2024. However, his tenure ended with a disappointing 26-56 record during the team’s first full season following the trade of Luka Doncic to the Lakers in February 2025.

Kidd, who won a championship with the Mavericks as a player, stated in April that he was “not part of the process” that sent Doncic to the Lakers. The trade, which also involved Anthony Davis and Max Christie, resulted in significant losses for the team, including Davis’ injury and Kyrie Irving’s ACL tear.

Mavericks president Masai Ujiri emphasized the need for a new direction for the team as they aim to build an organization capable of sustained championship contention.
