Meghan Markle Posts Selfie, Sparks Criticism Ahead of World Health Assembly

Meghan Markle is set to attend the 79th World Health Assembly from May 18-23. However, just a day before, she posted a selfie with her daughter Lilibet on social media as they tried on dresses.

European Editor at Large Tom Sykes criticized Meghan’s decision, stating that it was “staggeringly tone-deaf” for someone who plans to discuss the harms of exposing children to social media alongside the world’s most senior public health official.

Sykes also noted that Meghan spent $250,000 on her wardrobe and called it a “boastful image,” highlighting his concerns about her intentions for the event.

Following this incident, the Sussexes moved rapidly from Vancouver Island, Canada to Santa Barbara, California. They continued their transition during the COVID-19 pandemic, attending events like the Endeavour Fund Awards and Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey.

A year later, news emerged that a 12-month ‘review period’ concluded, confirming that the Sussexes would not return to royal life. This led to Prince Harry’s honorary military titles and royal patronages being stripped.

The transition was further solidified with interviews on Oprah Winfrey, 60 Minutes, CBS, BBC, and the release of their Netflix docuseries. Despite a Spotify deal falling through, fans saw CEO Daniel Ek accuse the couple of being ‘grafters.’

In January 2023, Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, was released, detailing events like the Sandringham summit and the dog bowl incident. Meghan suffered a miscarriage in 2021, which she wrote about in The New York Times.

The only documented return to the UK for Meghan was for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee and her funeral. Later, Lilibet and Archie became Prince and Princess, following their father’s ‘birthright.’ Since then, anti-royal interviews have reduced as the Sussexes work towards rehabilitation, despite Prince William’s rumored dissatisfaction.
