Oman’s foreign minister confirmed Thursday that US-Iran talks are scheduled to take place in Geneva. The mediator noted the discussions were set with a positive push to achieve a final agreement. Simultaneously, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized his country’s resolve against external pressures during ongoing nuclear negotiations with the United States.
Earlier this week, Pezeshkian made clear that world powers’ attempts to coerce Iran would be futile. He stated, “World powers are lining up to force us to bow our heads… but we will not bend under all the problems they are causing for us,” as reported live by state television.
This comes at a time when President Donald Trump is pushing the United States towards war with Tehran, despite some advisors recommending he focus on domestic issues related to voters’ economic concerns. The US demands that Iran abandon its nuclear program, which Iran has rejected and denied any intention of developing an atomic weapon.
Trump had previously hinted that “bad things” would occur if Iran did not reach a deal within ten days. This deadline was later extended to fifteen days.
