A child tragically lost their life while four others were seriously wounded on Sunday when a mortar shell landed in a residential area near the Pak-Afghan border in North Waziristan, as reported by local authorities.

The incident unfolded early evening in the Ghulam Khan locality, with heavy gunfire erupting between both sides of the frontier. Witnesses report that a mortar fired from across the Afghan side came crashing down into Golakhel village and exploded amid civilian quarters, causing immediate devastation.

At least one child died instantly as the shell hit, while four people sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to the nearest health facility in Miranshah. Local residents immediately took them to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, where they received emergency medical care from doctors and nurses working tirelessly under intense pressure.

Hospital sources indicated that some of the injured were in critical condition, necessitating immediate intervention. The Emergency Ward was put on high alert as officials pressed hospital staff to ensure all necessary treatment measures were implemented for those affected by this senseless tragedy.

In response to the incident, Tehsildar Miranshah Ghani Wazir and his counterpart, Tehsildar Ghulam Khan Aziz Wazir, arrived at the emergency room under orders from North Waziristan Deputy Commissioner Yousaf Karim. They emphasized the need for comprehensive medical care for all those injured in this preventable calamity.

Tehsildars have also instructed hospital staff to maintain a heightened level of preparedness and continue providing urgent treatment, which has continued with unwavering dedication since the mortar’s impact.

The Ghulam Khan border crossing remains closed due to ongoing security concerns. Despite its vital role as a trade and travel corridor between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the area continues to grapple with a perilous security environment that threatens lives in this remote frontier region.
