OpenAI has unveiled GPT-4o, an upgraded version of its GPT-4 model, boasting enhanced speed and expanded capabilities across text, vision, and audio domains. Mira Murati, OpenAI’s CTO, revealed the update during a livestream announcement, highlighting its improved performance.

According to Murati, GPT-4o will be available to all users for free, with paying users enjoying up to five times the capacity limits of the free version. The rollout of GPT-4o’s features will occur iteratively, with text and image capabilities already accessible in ChatGPT as of today.

Additionally, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized that GPT-4o is “natively multimodal,” capable of processing voice commands, text inputs, and graphical information seamlessly. Altman also noted that the model’s API is priced at half the cost and operates twice as fast as its predecessor, GPT-4-turbo.

Speech and video functionalities will be introduced to all users in the coming weeks, marking a significant advancement in human-machine interaction. OpenAI aims to bridge the gap between humans and AI, making artificial intelligence more accessible to everyone.
