Oracle, a leading tech firm, announced significant job cuts as part of its expansion into artificial intelligence. Senior staff confirmed the layoffs on LinkedIn, revealing thousands of positions were eliminated.
Michael Shepherd, Oracle’s senior manager, identified affected roles including senior engineers, architects, operations leaders, program managers, and technical specialists. He emphasized these cuts were not performance-related.
BBC reports suggest around 10,000 employees may have been impacted, citing reduced activity in the company’s internal Slack system.
The layoffs coincide with Oracle’s increased investment in AI. CEO Mike Silicia stated that AI coding tools are enabling smaller teams to deliver more comprehensive solutions faster.
Oracle has committed tens of billions of dollars to AI infrastructure and partnerships, including collaborations with OpenAI. Former employees reported receiving early morning emails about their job loss, some offered one month’s severance pay.
