Pakistan and Iran to Boost Bilateral Ties, Target $10 Billion Trade Volume

Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations across multiple sectors, with the ambitious goal of increasing their trade volume to an impressive $10 billion. This resolute agreement was reached during high-level talks between delegations from both countries held in Islamabad today.

Led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, the discussions highlighted a shared vision of advancing political, economic, trade, and cultural ties between the two neighboring nations.

President Raisi emphasized the importance of promoting trade and business activities in border regions, recognizing their potential to drive prosperity and improve the livelihoods of local communities.

Echoing these sentiments, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to strengthening its relationship with Iran, emphasizing the transformative impact of border regions as catalysts for economic progress.

The leaders also discussed joint efforts in combating terrorism and organized crime, underscoring their mutual determination to address common challenges. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended Iran’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity with the Palestinian people and calling for collective action among Muslim nations to advocate for their rights on international platforms.

During the talks, eight memoranda of understanding were signed, covering areas such as veterinary and animal health cooperation, judicial support in civil cases, and security matters. Additionally, agreements were reached for the establishment of a special economic zone in Gabad and for film exchanges and cooperation between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Iran’s Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs.

The signed MOUs also include collaboration between the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare of Iran, as well as between the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority and the National Standards Organization of Iran. Joint film production projects and cultural exchanges are expected under these agreements, along with enhanced cooperation in mutual legal matters.
