The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has appointed Flying Horse Samiullah as its Chief Selector for the Pakistan Men’s Hockey Team in an official press release on Wednesday. The appointment comes after recommendation by the PHF Professional Development Committee, which includes Olympians Hasan Sardar and Islahuddin Siddiqui.
This selection marks a pivotal moment in the PHF’s strategy to revitalize hockey in Pakistan. Their comprehensive Hockey Roadmap encompasses several key areas: grassroots development, high-performance training, and enhancing international competitiveness. Central to this roadmap is establishing a structured team management system with a Selection Committee, Head Coach, and support staff; creating a calendar of domestic and international competitions; providing technical education for coaches, umpires, and officials; and conducting talent hunt drives to identify young players.
Additionally, the PHF plans to promote hockey at schools and colleges by reviving inter-school and inter-collegiate competitions. They also intend to establish a high-performance center to support player development.
“Our commitment is clear,” stated PHF President in an official statement. “With Samiullah leading as Chief Selector, we are confident that our team will reclaim its former glory.” The federation further emphasized their intention to work collaboratively with stakeholders, sponsors, and the hockey community to implement this roadmap and re-establish Pakistan’s status as a formidable force in international hockey.
Samiullah’s appointment signifies a significant step forward for the PHF in their ambitious plan to rejuvenate Pakistan’s national team.
