On the sidelines of the 3rd Belt and Road Energy Ministerial Conference in Qingdao, Federal Minister of Power, Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, met with Zhang Jianhua, Administrator of China’s National Energy Administration (NEA). During the meeting, the Pakistani minister extended warm congratulations on the successful organization of the conference.

Minister Leghari highlighted the critical role of the Belt and Road Energy Partnership (BREP) in fostering global energy cooperation, security, and sustainable development. He emphasized that BREP showcases China’s diplomacy and leadership in advancing energy security on a global scale.

Reflecting on the historic visit of Chinese Premier Li Qiang to Pakistan, Leghari reaffirmed the commitment of both nations to enhancing cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support in addressing Pakistan’s energy shortages, particularly during a period of severe power outages. Since 2013, Pakistan and China have successfully completed 15 energy projects, adding over 8,000 megawatts of electricity to Pakistan’s national grid.

As the second phase of CPEC progresses, both leaders expressed a mutual desire to deepen energy cooperation, focusing on the modernization of Pakistan’s power transmission and distribution infrastructure. The minister also extended his heartfelt condolences over the loss of two Chinese engineers in a tragic incident in Karachi on October 6, 2024, condemning the terrorist attack and reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Chinese personnel in the country.

Leghari concluded the meeting by inviting Zhang Jianhua to visit Pakistan, strengthening bilateral ties and cooperation in the energy sector.
