Legal Case Filed Against Pakistan Idol

A legal case has been filed against Pakistan Idol in Intellectual Property Tribunal Karachi. The plaintiff, Muhammad Ahsan Qureshy, seeks a declaration, recovery of damages, rendition of accounts and a permanent injunction due to alleged breach of contract and copyright infringement.

The Merchant Holdings (Private) Limited is among the defendants named in the lawsuit registered as Suit No. 54 of 2026. According to court documents, Qureshy claims he has been associated with the project for around seven months, carrying out all photography work but never receiving final payments or expenses settled.

Qureshy told The Express that several members of the creative department are also facing similar issues. He stated that no further filming, including the finale, has taken place since the last round during the gala stage, which included Basant and wedding festival segments. This raises questions about the completion of the season.

Individuals associated with the production told The Express that payment-related issues within Pakistan Idol have been severe and ongoing. They claim that due to poor financial management and weak commercial performance, the project has stalled to the extent that even organizing the finale is uncertain. Despite its global popularity, the Pakistani edition faces serious challenges, with its first season yet to be completed.

The Merchant Holdings (Private) Limited issued a statement expressing confidence in resuming Pakistan Idol, stating delays were partly due to Ramadan and prevailing global circumstances. They intend to resume the project, which they say will be “worth the wait.”

Qureshy said he initiated legal proceedings after careful consideration over serious matters linked to the show. He confirmed that the court has taken cognizance of the case and intends to present complete evidence during proceedings, urging the public to refrain from speculation and allow the legal process to take its course.

No official response has been given by the defendants or representatives of Pakistan Idol regarding the allegations.
