Pakistan’s UN envoy urged the General Assembly to resolve the Kashmir and Palestine disputes in line with Security Council resolutions. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad highlighted that more than twenty communications concerning the ‘India-Pakistan Question’ were brought to the attention of the Security Council during 2025, underscoring the Jammu and Kashmir dispute’s continued relevance.

The envoy emphasized that durable peace in South Asia requires a just settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute under relevant Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He also noted the ongoing issues related to Palestine, including the Gaza Peace Plan adopted by the Council.

Indian Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish responded, asserting that Kashmir is an integral part of India and accusing Pakistan of denying self-determination to the Kashmiri people. The envoy from Pakistan reaffirmed support for the Palestinian right to an independent, viable, and contiguous State based on pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds as its capital.

The report highlighted the need for a more democratic, representative, and accountable multilateral system, with the UN Secretary-General committing to comprehensive Security Council reform. The Pakistani delegate stressed that India’s refusal to implement Security Council resolutions on Kashmir disregards its obligations under the UN Charter.

Meanwhile, human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir continue, including arbitrary detentions, restrictions on freedoms, demographic engineering, and other abuses documented by international bodies.
