Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s spokesperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, warned on Tuesday that any unprovoked firing by the Afghan Taliban at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border would face immediate and severe retaliation. The Pakistani authorities swiftly responded after the Taliban regime started uncontrolled shelling in Torkham and Tirah sectors of the frontier.

“This is a blatant violation of our sovereignty,” Zaidi emphasized. “Pakistan will not tolerate any attempt to undermine its territorial integrity, nor will it be deterred by threats.”

The spokesperson highlighted that Pakistan’s robust security apparatus had swiftly responded, neutralizing Taliban aggression without provoking an escalation. He underscored the determination of Pakistani forces to ensure the safety and protection of citizens across the border regions.

Zaidi also cautioned that any future acts of provocation would face swift and severe consequences from Islamabad. The Afghan Taliban regime’s unprovoked shelling in Torkham and Tirah sectors was viewed as a provocative act by Pakistan, highlighting ongoing tensions between the two nations.

Pakistan will continue to safeguard its citizens’ interests and uphold its national security, Zaidi reiterated, asserting that any breach of peace would be met with decisive action. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unresolved issues straining relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan amid regional instability.

Further developments are expected in this diplomatic and military standoff.
