Pakistan’s Human Spaceflight Programme hit another high note with the successful completion of the second phase of astronaut candidates’ selection. This achievement comes from a partnership between SUPARCO and China’s Astronaut Centre (ACC).

Following an initial screening process in Pakistan, two candidates were shortlisted after undergoing rigorous medical, psychological, and aptitude assessments conducted at ACC, adhering to international human spaceflight standards. The chosen candidates will now embark on six months of advanced astronaut training at ACC.

Upon completion of the training, one of these astronauts will be selected for a mission aboard China’s Space Station in October/November 2026. This is part of the bilateral “Astronaut Cooperation Agreement” signed in February 2025, led by the Prime Minister of Pakistan with extensive support from the Chinese Government.

This initiative signifies not only Pakistan’s first participation in human spaceflight but also a strong endorsement from China, making this an extraordinary moment for both nations. The cooperation has been pivotal in realizing this milestone under the vision and leadership of the Pakistani government.
