Piers Morgan took aim at critics of Bad Bunny during his Super Bowl performance in a Twitter post on Saturday. He wrote, “I thought their rage was about not understanding the lyrics.”
The British journalist’s comments came as House Republicans announced an investigation into Bad Bunny’s halftime show performance, claiming the Spanish-language lyrics were inappropriate for television.
Morgan, viewed by many as a Trump supporter, had previously criticized Donald Trump over his attacks on the Puerto Rican singer. “Trump said the Super Bowl halftime show with Bad Bunny was ‘absolutely terrible.’ The 31-year-old artist’s album ‘Debí Tirar Más Fotos’ won Album of the Year at this year’s Grammy Awards.”
Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, has been vocal in his criticism of Trump’s immigration policies and openly supports Kamala Harris for president in 2024. On Truth Social, Trump declared it “one of the worst Halftime Shows ever” following Bad Bunny’s performance.
The Super Bowl showcased a fusion of Spanish language and reggaeton rhythms, marking an unprecedented moment in American football. Despite criticism from some quarters, Bad Bunny’s electrifying halftime show highlighted the growing prominence of Latin music on American sports stages.
