In a key virtual meeting with the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, pledged government support to address challenges faced by Karachi’s industrial sector.
Held via Zoom, the meeting covered critical issues such as electricity shortages, rising gas levies, water supply, tax hurdles, and export challenges. Haroon Akhtar announced the formation of dedicated committees, including KCCI’s input, to deliver focused solutions under the Prime Minister’s directives.
“The Prime Minister is committed to reviving local industries and boosting exports,” he stated. He also highlighted a recent cut in the policy rate to 11% as a key move to ease business costs.
KCCI’s Shawal Malik, however, raised concerns over Karachi’s deteriorating power infrastructure, which continues to inflate production costs.
Despite ongoing difficulties, Haroon Akhtar reassured the business community of the government’s resolve to improve Karachi’s industrial ecosystem and strengthen Pakistan’s global competitiveness.
