In Lower South Waziristan, the relentless cycle of violence has claimed another life. A police constable was martyred yesterday when unidentified gunmen unleashed a deadly assault on Mughal Khel village, leaving him critically wounded.

District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Tahir informed that Attaullah, a constable from the area, sustained fatal injuries and passed away at the scene of the crime. His body has been taken to the district headquarters hospital in Wana for legal procedures.

Security measures have tightened across the region following this incident. An investigation is ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack, which DPO Tahir emphasized would not be tolerated by authorities. “Efforts are underway to bring those involved to justice,” he stated firmly.

Lower South Waziristan has faced increasing terrorist threats in recent years, as evidenced by the annual security report from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), detailing a significant rise in violence: fatalities jumped from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025. The escalating number of attacks underscores the urgency of these measures aimed at restoring peace and security in affected areas.
